ABC has ordered a comedy pilot in which the former “Friends” star Courteney Cox will play an attractive newly single 40-year-old mom with a 17-year-old son. It comes from “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence.

“Forty-year-old women on TV are so beautiful and perfect and wrinkle-free,” said Lawrence, who first worked with Cox when he was a writer on “Friends.” “People don’t do the reality of it, and there is a real comedy area about a woman who is talking about Botox, about having sex with the lights on and how her body is changing.”

Lawrence and co-writer Kevin Biegel, also a “Scrubs” veteran, had the idea for the show for a while, and Lawrence felt that Cox, whom he describes as “comedically fearless,” would be perfect for the lead. After the actress guest-starred on the opening three episodes of the upcoming season of “Scrubs,” he approached her.Cox, who is 44 in real life, said she was “a huge fan of Bill Lawrence and his comedic sensibilities.”

Lawrence drew some of the inspiration for the show from his wife, actress Christa Miller, who is a few weeks older than Cox. Miller has been recurring on “Scrubs” and also might appear on “Cougar Town.”Production is slated to begin in early January for a possible midseason launch.

Lawrence is wrapping postproduction on the eighth season — and first on ABC — of “Scrubs,” whose finale will mark the departure of star Zach Braff. Lawrence also is expected to relinquish day-to-day responsibilities on the show but will continue to be involved if ABC opts to extend the show’s run.Cox recently starred on and exec produced the FX drama “Dirt,” which was abruptly canceled earlier this year during the Hollywood writers strike.

From Pop Candy : It was held at the Sunset Plaza House overlooking the beautiful lights of Los Angeles,” she says. “We drank Red Bull and vodka poolside while rubbing elbows with Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Bill Lawrence, Sarah Chalke and former guest stars Scott Foley and Tom Cavanagh. Even Rowdy was there! Sadly, John C. McGinley wasn’t.”

1558294.pngGreg: Please give me something good on Scrubs!
This news is bittersweet, but as you read this tonight, Scrubs is wrapping on what the cast and crew are calling their last-ever episode. (Last episode of the season, and very likely of the series.) Creator Bill Lawrence is directing the finale, which is called, appropriately, “My Finale.” I’ll be raising a Shiner Bock from here.

Four months after ABC stole Scrubs away from NBC, absence apparently has made the Peacock’s heart grow…Wait, no. It’s actually grown smaller than the Grinch’s on Christmas Eve!

For the death-defying comedy’s likely series finale on ABC, which was shot last week for a probable spring airing, series creator Bill Lawrence gathered all of the significant guest stars from the past eight years for a jaw-dropping scene that’ll rival the mass reunion in Seinfeld’s sendoff. But two actors currently appearing on NBC programs — Heroes‘ Masi Oka and Chuck’s Sarah Lancaster — weren’t permitted to participate.

“They both wanted to do it, but NBC said they weren’t allowed to,” explains Lawrence, who, as you know, has never been shy in calling out his old network for its lack of Scrubs promotion and constant time-slot changes. “Typical classy stuff.”

Although networks tend to frown on letting their stars fraternize with the enemy, things have been loosening up in recent years. For instance, ABC gave Scrubs leading lady Sarah Chalke the OK to continue her recurring gig on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother this season. In turn, the Eye loaned out The Unit’s Scott Foley for Scrubs‘ penultimate episode. Even NBC has been known to play nice on occasion: The net is allowing its newest Law & Order: SVU ADA, Michaela McManus, to revisit her alma mater, The CW’s One Tree Hill, this season.

Natch, the double standard is not lost on Lawrence, who suggests that the slight is almost certainly sour grapes over Scrubs‘ defection. “But [Masi and Sarah] should not have been part of that fight,” he sighs. “It felt kind of petty to me.”

Well, despite the NBC dis, the scene in question — which featured such Scrubs grads as Tom Cavanagh, Amy Smart, and Nicole Sullivan — “turned out awesome,” tattles one spywitness. “It was very emotional. It should be an incredible finale.”

And before you ask, yes, that was the scene I was invited to appear in — and would have appeared in had “forces beyond my control” not intervened. (Someone was going to ask, right?)
